Ok let’s just admit it, customer service is a hard job! It’s tedious, frustrating, and often thankless. But it’s the job you’ve chosen so the BEST thing for you to do is make the most of it and do your best to be a star performer.
In order to do that you need to commit to these 5 commandments of great customer service.
Commandment #1 – Thou Shalt Greet Thy Customer Properly
It doesn’t matter whether it’s waiting to order a burger at the local burger joint, or waiting to speak with a customer service rep about a missed appointment, the fact is there’s probably nothing more annoying to a customer than not being greeted promptly with a mix of friendliness and professionalism.
Commandment #2 – Thou Shalt Say “Please and Thank You”
Using common pleasantries like "please" and "thank you" can go a long way in turning an upset customer into a happy one. So be sure that you use these pleasantries as often and as much as possible, your customer will appreciate it.
Commandment #3 – Thou Shalt Do What You Promised
One of the biggest complaints that customers in every industry have is that they don’t trust companies to do what they promised they would do. This is everything from returning phone calls to not raising prices.
So if you want to be a “Rock Star” customer service representative you need to commit to following through on any commitment you make to a customer.
Commandment #4 – Thou Shalt Value Thy Customers Time
Whether you know it or not, your customer has better things to do then spend their time dealing with you and your company. Because of this, it is important that you value your customer’s time by working as quickly and efficiently as possible.
Commandment #5 – Thou Shalt Appreciate Your Customers Business
Chances are your customer has many other businesses they can do business with, but for some reason they chose to do business with you. Well in a competitive marketplace that should be seen as a compliment and you should sincerely let your customer know that you appreciate them for being a loyal and valued customer.
